This blog exists to promote/share my playlists with a much wider audience than just sharing them amongst people I know. However each playlist I create is part of a bigger picture. Hopefully this should set in stone what I want to achieve with my playlists.
Strictly BASS
I started this playlist series as a side project to my Strictly DNB playlists but it took on a life of it's own, became my most subscribed playlist and ended up getting it's own section on sharemyplaylists.com in the company of Decca Records, Island, NOW That's What I Call Music, Mercury & others. It started off as a way of showcasing Dubstep, Breakbeat & more commercial DNB but now includes eclectronica, dub, breakcore, fidget, nu garage and more. I have made the commitment to SMP to provide at least 1 playlist a month, but it's more like 1 every 3 weeks. Anyone who checks out this blog, I'd appreciate if you headed over to SMP and voted up my playlists and help keep bass heavy electronic music featured on the main page.
Strictly Drum And Bass
As the title suggests these playlists focus entirely on DNB, Contain approximately 100 tracks and cover the entire spectrum of the music, also ranging from crossover acts such as Pendulum, Chase & Status, Nero to smaller, independently signed artists. This is the longest running playlist that I currently compile, with part 21 now in construction.
TOO Much Dubstep
Simple concept for this playlist. To find ALL the dubstep that's currently available on Spotify and add it to this playlist. Spotify has a 10'000 track limit to each playlist and this currently sits at 1'093, which in playing time is over 3 solid days. With the help of the entire community and anyone on Spotify social I hope to have this as the No.1 Dubstep playlist. It currently clocks in with 238 subscribers so it's doing alright for itself. If you have any tracks that I have missed and you're on spotify social then use the link in the right hand column to send them to me.
Alternative Judder Playlist
The reason I started this blog, my local club night posts it's monthly set lists over at Judder.org and I thought it could do with being a bit more interactive and having them as listenable playlists. Most of them are subscribed to by a hardcore few but apart from the AJP Facebook/last.fm pages the only other place you can find them is here. I used to put them up on SMP but they are such niche nights that it goes over the head of most casual spotify listeners. Like the night itself the playlists are a mish mash of dance, rock, pop, cheese, industrial and everything in between and I can understand that unless you're open minded it's probably not going to be exactly to your liking.
I have considered stopping doing the playlists but will only do this if they don't get any further exposure at the main site as they take a while to compile and don't have the subscription levels that I hoped they would achieve. Any club nights that would like me to compile playlists to feature on your site then get in touch using the formspring box in the right hand column.
Alternative Judder Warmups
This is basically my monthly DJ set in the form of a Spotify playlist. Features a wide array of musical styles that compliment the Judder 'anything goes' ethos, although mostly contains dance music as that's what I love most. The plan is that anyone going to the next Judder club night can listen to this and get themselves pumped up, that's why the playlists start off at a slow tempo and gradually build to faster styles.
A Rough Guide To
There used to be a compilation series on CD, that served as an introduction to all sorts of genres of music and I decided that there were too many genres that didn't have these handy starter comps. So far I've covered Drumstep, Dark Wave, Aggrotech, Indietronica, 8-bit, Digital Hardcore, Future Pop and have a lot more that I'm working on.
One Leads To Another
I created these playlists by choosing one track by a remixer, then finding a song by that artist that had been remixed by someone else, then finding a song by that remixer that had been remixed by someone else, the plan was to see if I could get a playlist to go full circle but after 3 playlists I've not managed to find any.
My ####
These playlists were created originally using my childhood diaries and music that I listed in them, I kept my diary up until 2005 when I stopped writing it but the playlists from then have been based on Last.fm plays and since 2010 I've started up an online journal to keep track of what I'm currently listening to. Today's music is tomorrows nostalgia.
Weekly Top Ten Tracks
Exactly as the name suggests, as I update my personal journal I list the top ten tracks that I have listened to in the past 7 days(thanks to last.fm scrobbles!). As my main source of music is now Spotify this is easy enough to do. If it's not on Spotify then I probably don't listen to it. I'm not a music snob I just haven't got enough time to be using more than a few services and last.fm/spotify/YouTube/rcrdlbl are just fine for now.
